It was Halloween and Wendy was applying her costume's make-up. "Just a little dab of red," she told herself.

It was also a dark and stormy night - perfect for the occassion. But when a bolt of lightning chanced to strike, Wendy's hand slipped and a red line wound all the way down her face.

"Curses!" Wendy stomped her foot. She turned on the water and washed off the make-up, then started again.

Wendy was almost done with the red make-up when her cat, Treasure, decided it was dinner time. Not feeling very patient, Treasure ran up to Wendy and gave her a scratch.

"Youch!" Wendy screamed as her hand slipped once again. She peered angrily down at the floor. "Oh, I know what you want!" she snapped at the hungry feline. "But all you're gonna get is a boot to the head!" She kicked Treasure out of her bathroom, then went back to applying make-up.

"The red line doesn't look too bad that way," Wendy mused to herself. "Ok, now where's the yellow?"

Wendy went looking for the yellow, but it was nowhere to be found. Finally, five minutes later, she saw it, or at least traces of it. It was covering the wall of her room.

"Aaah!" Wendy shouted. "That cost me 50 coins! Who messed up my room?!"

No one answered. Wendy had to use orange make-up instead. But when she opened the tube, the coloring spurted out and covered her face. She looked ready- if she was going as an orange.

"That's it!" cried Wendy. "No costume for me this year! Who wants that stupid prize anyway?"

Bowser gave out a prize each year for the scariest costume. Lemmy usually won, but Wendy had always wanted the reward: lots of chocolate!

"It'll make me fat anyway," Wendy pouted as she washed her face again.

So that night, six Koopalings came in costume, and Wendy sat by the sidelines. Her siblings' costumes were so good that she couldn't recognize them- that is, except for Morton, who was trying to get everyone to guess who he was. He was dressed in a white sheet, and his rambling voice kind of gave him away.

Even though she didn't know who anyone was, Wendy assumed that Lemmy would win the prize again. She didn't really consider any of the costumes to be any scarier than the others, but that was because she was in a bad mood.

So that was the name Wendy expected to hear when a quivering Bowser took the mike to announce the prize. "This year's scariest costume," he gulped, "is Wendy!"

"What?!" gasped Wendy. "I won?"

"That's right!" nodded Bowser. Then he raced out of the room. Five of the Koopalings followed him.

Wendy found the prize bag and started gobbling it. Lemmy took off his Pikachu mask and turned to Wendy. "Eat all that, and you'll win it again next year," he commented. His voice was serious.
