Identity Crisis By Lemmy Koopa
The seven Koopa Kids had decided to invest their money in a gold chess set. Although the set was very expensive, they had decided to buy it and then sell it when the price of gold went up. Because the set was so valuable, however, all but one of the Koopas was watching the set as two of them played the first game. The seventh Koopa Kid had decided to trust his siblings and go work in his laboratory.
One of the chess-playing Koopalings was studying the board very carefully. "This is no fun!" said the Koopaling. "I know what you’re going to do-"
"Before I do it!" finished the Koopaling’s partner.
"See what I mean?" sighed the first Koopa Kid.
Suddenly, the Koopa Kids all heard a cry of "Eureka!" from upstairs. They were so startled that they all ran upstairs to see what the commotion was.
When they got upstairs, they saw the seventh Koopa Kid about to press a button on a strange-looking machine. The youngest Koopa Kid in the room was startled by this. Afraid that the machine would somehow backfire, the startled Koopaling charged the machine. The machine blew up. The inventor of the machine, who was the closest to the machine when it blew up, fell unconscious. A purple smoke seeped out of the machine and filled the room.
The purple smoke made the six conscious Koopalings very dizzy. Their minds grew very fuzzy until they could no longer remember who they were. With their identity gone, the Koopa Kids began to think they were someone different.
"Oh no!" exclaimed a Koopa who thought he was Lemmy. "Some one will-"
"Steal the chess set!" finished a Koopa who thought he was Iggy but was actually a younger Koopaling.
"Well, I’m not going to let anyone steal my chess set," said a Koopaling pretending to be the strongest Koopaling. The Koopa charged at a nearby sibling, but fell down because that sibling really was the strongest Koopaling.
The Koopaling who did not fall down patted his head and was surprised not to find a hair ribbon. He looked around and found a hair ribbon on the head of someone who had already spoken. The strong Koopa took the ribbon and was very content.
Another Koopa who thought he was responsible for smashing the machine left the laboratory crying. He passed a Koopaling who was talking nonstop, but the leaving Koopa was not quite sure which Koopa it was.
The yapping Koopa looked for the Koopa that really was his best friend. At first he could not find him, but then he saw another Koopaling balancing. The lonely Koopa walked across the room to see who he thought was his friend.
When the lonely Koopa began to chat with the Koopaling he thought was his friend, the listener suddenly remembered that he wasn’t a joker but an inventor. He decided to try to fix the steaming machine by hitting it with a wrench, and the machine actually stopped steaming. The Koopaling suddenly had an urge to describe his great work with lots of adjectives, but he couldn’t figure out where the urge came from.
A Koopa who had been knocked out woke up in a daze. He still knew who he was, however, and had all of his common sense. He could not see well because the purple smoke still filled the room. Suddenly, a shadow appeared in the door of the laboratory, holding..."
"The chess set!" exclaimed the dazed Koopa.
The other five Koopalings looked towards the doorway, but none could recognize the thief through the smoke. "Give that back!" they all demanded.
"No way!" stomped the no longer confused Koopa. The thief laughed as the other Koopalings couldn’t remember who they were supposed to be fighting, and so instead fought each other. Then, the thief took and easy stroll out of the castle to exchange the gold for cash.
Who stole the gold chess set?
