After School Strike

By Ninja-Z

Lemmy was speechless. He had been sent to the office after his ball had popped when he was going through the school halls to get to his after school class due to some tacks. He had landed snot first, and his nose was bleeding. To make it worse, Iggy came to the office unconscious with scars and bruises everywhere also.

Ms. Katie, Iggy’s reading teacher, had found Iggy lying in the school hallway, right next to his locker fifteen minutes after the buses had left and the after school classes had begun. It was apparent that the locker had been forced open by a prybar. The locker was badly damaged to the extent where it couldn’t be closed. In front of the locker, a dozen or more red pistachio shells were scattered around. The attacker must have had a snack during the crime.

“Will he be alright?” asked Lemmy, staring at Iggy’s battered body.

“I had walked through that same hallway five minutes before the body was discovered,” commented Principal Aarons, sitting at his desk. “I didn’t see anybody around, and it was barren. I don’t know how the attacker could have finished the deed in such short time.”

Iggy finally came to his senses. “Iggy, you’re okay!” exclaimed Lemmy.

Iggy squinted, trying to focus on Lemmy. He didn’t have his glasses on and they weren’t found around the hallway where his unconscious body was discovered. “L-Lemmy? What’s going on?”

Principal Aarons grabbed a telephone. “In all my years as principal at this school, I have not seen such a crime committed here. I need to get the police in.”

Iggy looked around, trying to detect where the voice came from. Ms. Katie sat next to Iggy and put his head back on the pillow of the nurse’s bed used for the kids who had injured themselves and couldn’t move. She put on Iggy’s glasses, which she had in her pocket.

“When the pincipal gets someone here, you need to give them all the information they ask for,” explained Ms. Katie.

Iggy nodded feebly, and fifteen minutes later, a short Shy Guy dressed in a brown uniform came in through the office door. Principal Aarons was shocked. “Are you the one sent by the police?” inquired Principal Aarons.

The Shy Guy nodded. “I’m Sleuth Guy, a veteran detective who works for the police. Now then, to get straight to business, what’s the problem?”

Iggy let out a loud cough as he tried to get the words out. “It was thirty minutes before school was over for the day. I was needed at the inspection room for a vision screening. Ms. Katie took my glasses and I was escorted to the inspection room by her. After a few tests, the eye doctor told me that it was best if I practice getting to my after school class without my glasses. The halls were empty since the buses had left. I couldn’t make out any moving shape. When I was passing my locker, somebody leapt in front of me. I didn’t know who, because I didn’t have my glasses. Everything then went black, I guess,” Iggy managed to say.

Sleuth Guy made a few notes in his notebook. “Hmm…very interesting. I got the rest of the story from the principal when he called. Your locker was also broken into. I’ve already got a couple of possible crime-committers in mind. However, I’ll need more evidence. Was there anyone else in the hallways around that time?” asked Sleuth Guy.

Principal Aaron turned towards the public address system. “Perhaps we should find out.”

Five minutes later, four kids had entered the office. Lemmy knew all of them: Karma, Ludwig, Wendy, and Roy. Wendy was the prettiest girl on the cheerleader squad. Every five minutes she’d apply makeup or fix her hair. She was part of the after school cheerleading squad.

Ludwig was part of the science program at school, and he was just twiddling his thumbs, staring into space.

Karma was there for the art class. She had with her a notebook which she was just sketching in. She kept her distance from Ludwig, trying not to make eye contact with him.

Roy was known for his bullying abilities, but he had never done any crimes at school. He was enrolled in the band lessons. He was wearing his band gloves, playing an imaginary drum in front of him. All four of the kids weren’t happy about being sent to the principal's office.

Sleuth Guy approached Wendy, pulling out his pen. “Okay then, I am here to question you about a few things, so don’t hesitate to answer. First off, you know that Iggy Koopa was knocked unconscious in the hallway?”

Wendy snorted. “He was? Bah, he deserves it after he stepped on my bow the other day. Why, I’m sure he meant it!” Wendy proclaimed.

Sleuth Guy scribbled something onto the notebook. “What were you doing in the hallways around ten to fifteen minutes after the buses had left?” questioned Sleuth Guy.

Wendy applied some more make-up as she opened her mouth to speak. “Oh, I forgot my pom-poms at my locker, so I left the class to retrieve them. Nothing big happened, I just went to my locker, got the pom-poms, and came back. No big deal.”

Sleuth Guy nodded as he walked towards Roy, who was still playing the pretend drum. Sleuth Guy cleared his throat, and Roy snapped out of it. “You do know that Iggy was injured in the hallway next to his locker, right?” Sleuth Guy asked like he did to Wendy.

Roy scoffed. “You can’t possible think I was the one who injured him, right? Come on, what would Iggy have in his locker that I would want? Iggy is just lowlife scum, but he wouldn’t have anything of interest!”

Sleuth Guy scratched his chin. “And why were you in the hallways?”

“Well, I had to go to the bathroom. You see, I had just chugged down an entire bottle of Super Soda when school ended. When I went to the bathroom, most of the stalls were out of order. When I finally found one that wasn’t out of order, it was already ten minutes before now. That’s the story.”

Sleuth Guy walked over to Ludwig, who eyed Sleuth Guy nervously. “W-What do you want?” Ludwig demanded defensively.

“Well, I’m just wondering what you were doing in the hallways out of your after school class. Just collecting some data,” Sleuth Guy informed.

Ludwig sighed. “Oh, good, you’re not one of those people who are blaming me for my school experiments. It’s not my fault they once in a while go awry and sometimes blow up. As for where I was, my hands were covered in some gooey-slime from the experiments and the teacher asked me to go wash my hands in the bathroom.”

Sleuth Guy finished writing down notes about that. “By any chance, did you see Roy there?” asked Sleuth Guy.

“Well, I don’t know if it was Roy, but I heard someone’s voice in there. I couldn’t figure out the words, but I figured it was some other student.”

Sleuth Guy then went to Karma, who immediately put her notebook and pen away. “What is it?” snapped Karma.

Sleuth Guy stared at Karma suspiciously. “You do know Iggy was injured badly in the hallway, do you?”

Karma scoffed. “How typical. He’s getting himself into trouble all the time. Nobody ignores him, I know. What about me? Everyone laughs at me if I get hurt. Only Roy would laugh at Iggy if he was hurt. Me, nobody appreciates my talent at school, it’s horrible!” Karma blurted out.

“What were you doing in the hallway?” asked Sleuth Guy.

“The art teacher gave me the job of supplying the class with drawing paper and I hardly get to draw. Because of that, I was going back and forth from the storage room to get paper.”

Finally, Sleuth Guy gave his notes another look. “Hmm… actually, I’m quite confused about this myself. Who could do this?” Sleuth Guy asked.

When everyone lost hope in the mystery being solved, Lemmy snapped his fingers. “I got it! Sleuth Guy, I know who the attacker was,” Lemmy stated.

Who was the attacker?
