One day Bowser woke up and started thinking about his children’s welfare. Since he could not get this out of his mind, he finally decided to give the Koopalings a memory and instinct test. He assembled all of the Koopalings and told them what they were going to do.
Bowser: Now kids, I’ve been thinking of how many times the Marios have trapped me. I don’t want that to happen to you, so I’m giving you a memory and instinct test. With these skills you will be able to avoid getting trapped by the Marios.
Wendy: I’ve got to finish putting my makeup on! Can I go?
Bowser: No. This test is for all of you.
Wendy: I’ll throw the loudest tantrum you’ve ever heard if you don’t let me go!
Bowser: No. Everyone must be here.
Wendy screamed. Everyone covered their ears until Wendy couldn’t scream any longer.
Bowser: To improve your skills, you will be going through a maze. Now, here is the key to the maze. I’m only going to say it once, and then you’ll either have to remember it or figure it out on your own. Ok? So it’s: right, right, left, right, left, left, left, right. Everyone got that?
Ludwig: Your language is very disturbing to me considering the improper grammar rules and poor understandability.
Morton: I wish you would be a little clearer with your sentences so that I can hear and understand your directions better and I might be able to pass the maze.
Lemmy: What did-
Iggy: You say?
Roy: (holding up Iggy) You’d better not say that again or my brother gets it!
Wendy: …(her throat was still dry from screaming)
Bowser: Anyway, you have two hours to complete the maze. The first one out of the maze wins. If you are still in the maze after two hours, warp pipes will appear to take you out. The winner will not have to face the Marios next time we attack.
Ludwig: I find your offer very pleasing.
Morton: Since I like your offer I have decided to officially join in.
Lemmy: Sounds good-
Iggy: To me!
Roy: If I can’t beat up the Marios I don’t care to do this, but I guess I have no choice.
Wendy: …
Bowser: Good! I will be waiting for you at the end.
The others quickly ran into the maze, but the Koopaling who had not said anything yet followed Bowser. When Bowser threw the answer key away, the Koopaling that was following him grabbed it without being noticed. After he had the answer key memorized, he placed it in his pocket and started into the maze.
One of the “twins” got the first few turns correct, but then messed up and ended up back at the beginning. He knew that without the help of his twin, there was no way he could clear the maze. So he sat down and tried to think.
Another Koopaling waited for the others to get out of sight, and then went back to the beginning of the maze, hoping to take a shortcut. He ran into the Koopaling that stole the answer key and had just entered the maze. The Koopaling trying to take a shortcut used his strength to knock out the thief. The strong Koopaling then realized he did not know which way to go. He wandered around a bit, but to no avail. Then the strong Koopaling saw the Koopaling with glasses. He decided to take out his frustration on the Koopaling with glasses, and quickly knocked him out. Seeing that he was still hopelessly lost, he sat down and soon fell asleep.
Another Koopaling was wandering around, also lost. While wandering around, she bumped into a short Koopaling with rainbow hair. The short Koopaling paid no attention to the other Koopaling and kept going. Seeing that the short Koopaling had a sense of direction, the other Koopaling tried to ask him which way to go, but she could not talk. The short Koopaling was now out of sight, and the other one sat down and cried.
A Koopaling whose name starts with L had pulled out his tracker and set it for the end of the maze. The tracker soon led him to a dead end. He realized that the tracker could only lead him in a straight line towards the goal, and therefore could not be used in a maze. This Koopaling realized that since he didn’t memorize the order to turn and the tracker wouldn’t work, there was no hope of him finishing the maze. So he sat down and pulled a snack out of his pocket.
A Koopaling was on the right track and nearing the end. But near the last turn, he went the wrong way and wandered back to the beginning. This Koopaling had a strong urge to do his favorite thing. When he could bear it no longer, he sat down and started talking to himself.
Meanwhile, the first Koopaling to get knocked out woke up. Seeing himself at the beginning of the maze, he remembered Bowser’s key and set out to quickly clear the course. When he got there, Bowser greeted him.
Bowser: Great job! Now we have to wait for the others.
The short Koopaling was getting close to the end, but soon became confused and found himself at the beginning. At that moment, he remembered Bowser’s instructions and cleared the course. Seeing that someone had finished before him, he was a little disappointed, but was still happy to have cleared the maze.
After two hours the warp pipes popped up and everyone came out at the end.
Bowser: Congrats, son! You’ve won the maze test!
Bowser awarded the son who came out of the maze first a piece of paper that said that he didn’t have to fight the Marios. As that Koopaling was jumping up and down at his success, something fell out of his pocket. When Bowser picked it up and read it he realized this Koopaling had cheated.
Bowser: Since this son cheated, the award goes to the second one to clear the maze!
Everyone Else: Aww…
Winning Koopaling: Yes!
Who won the maze test?
In what order did the Koopalings get lost? (This does not include being knocked out.)
