Appearance: A giant, orange octopus with a crown, antenna, and cape. He has blue eyes. Later, he’s black with red eyes.
Note: If you look closely in the corner, you can see him on his planet on the box art.
History: Soon before the events of Galaxy, Bowser’s fleet passed by King Kaliente on his home planet (a considerably cool sun) where Junior’s lava reactor would be. Bowser bribed Kaliente, and he joined Bowser’s army, given two airships and a moveable lava arena, which he used to try to attack the Good Egg Galaxy until Mario beat him. Junior revived him from the dead as a zombie demon version of himself, and Mario battled him again on his home planet. Kaliente is still with the Koopa Army.

King Kaliente is the king of a strange species related to the octopus. His tribe is native to the Good Egg Galaxy. They can somehow live in a large pool of molten lava, in which their kingdom is built. This large king rules over his kingdom from the very middle, where the other Kalientes can come to him for advice and to receive the melons he generates inside of him for food. When he senses danger he arises out of the lava to attack. He spits flaming melons out of his snout, making him similar to Birdo. After spitting out a few melons he runs out of fire breath and spits out a plain melon. He then recharges to perform the same attack pattern. His most prized possession is his crown.

There are also guard Kalientes, who live on land and try to stop enemies from passing through to get to their village. This is the highest rank on the social ladder for a Kaliente.

Bowser Junior made him his ally, and relocated the king and his tribe to a planet with very little besides lava. The king fought Mario again here, yet his new crown was broken, and he fainted with a final blow to his head. He also coughed up the Grand Star that Bowser Jr. had entrusted him with.
